Fashion boutique with movie star chic

“The design successfully captures the essence of 'retro-futurism' with the defined concrete forms contrasting with the orange carpet. It feels luxurious and inviting,” Emma Holt, Judge.

Project: Audrey Boutique

Award: Independent shops or small chains, Silver, 2022

Location: Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

Design practice: Liang Architecture Studio

Client: Audrey Boutique

The redesign of this multi-brand fashion boutique, named after Audrey Hepburn, is based on the concept "Retro-futurism”. The dramatic space features fixtures and fittings made from gracefully curving concrete contrasting with sharper geometric elements.
The soft fabrics and retro wood textures are juxtaposed with the coolness and rigidity of the concrete and metal design elements. The rust-coloured steel spiral staircase, featuring a glazed balustrade, connects the two floors of the store, and creates a visual highlight with its strong hue and spiral shape. The soft textile cladding the steps adds a romantic and dynamic ambience to the space. The second-floor functions as a VIP display area and features orb lighting and retro teak furniture.

Design highlights

Visitors enter through a symmetrical display area with an orange carpet and central seating area surrounded by curved concrete displays of clothes. Piece de resistance? A large diamond-shaped acrylic lighting fixture which protrudes through the ceiling above and glows a bright fuchsia pink.
