Set in the Hengli Waterway in Guangzhou’s Nansha District, the design inspiration for this coffee bar is "discovering an oasis". Aimed at a younger generation of customers, a striking focal point is the coffee bean installation – intended as an artistic expression of street trends and embedded in the arced façade at the front of the lobby area. The installation groups the coffee beans according to different varieties, colours and origins, and displays them in transparent circular pods, dramatically arranged in a matrix. A coffee machine displayed at the other end of the lobby area displays the intricate internal mechanics of the original machine to provide a sense of heritage nostalgia.
Design highlights
The matte pink handmade bricks take advantage of the colour difference generated during the firing process to preserve individual details that break the homogeneity of the curved wall. The resulting spatial texture presents an attractive mottled effect that is complemented by the stainless-steel coffee installations and Terrazzo floor tiles.
