Timber, as a building material for skyscrapers, is about to change the skylines of cities. In 2018, the City of Seattle started accepting permit application for developments that use mass timber in building types of up to 18-stories tall.
Mass timber manufacturing and construction methods for taller buildings in North America are now enabling price competitiveness to conventional construction using concrete or steel. Climate change, international trade disputes, and new levels of health consciousness are contributing to an industry momentum in support of renewable and locally available resources.
Real estate developers and underwriters are invited to join us in Seattle on November 13th when our team will discuss the design and construction cost feasibility of an innovative 12-story mixed-use mass timber tower in Seattle. The site is hypothetical. The design team consists of DLR Group, Fast+Epp, Swinerton, WoodWorks, Heartland (all Seattle, WA) and Martha Schwartz Partners (Brooklyn, NY).
