Winner spotlight: Hangzhou Bay Wetland Primus Hotel

A treasured natural environment demands a very special and sympathetic design response from any development in its midst.

The Hangzhou Bay Wetland Primus Hotel in Hangzhou Bay, to the south of Shanghai, adopts environmental design principles to complement its setting. The resulting design has won it the Resort Hotel Award in the World Interiors News Awards 2018, which were presented in London earlier this month.

The hotel sits in a wetland park, popular with birds and ornithologists. It was created by HHD East Holiday International Design Group, and comprises a series of villas. The use of natural materials and subtle detailing and colours ensures that the hotel buildings blend into their environment, while also conveying a sense of grandeur and luxury to visitors. The WIN Awards judges praised the project as, “A very well executed design, with interesting details – quiet and inviting”.

The Hangzhou Bay Wetland Primus Hotel is one of more than 20 projects recognised in the prestigious WIN Awards 2018. The awards showcase the very best global creativity and talent in interior design across categories covering interior products, practice, projects and branding concepts.
