The 2,500 sq ft special projects store is located at Three Pancras Square, in the King’s Cross development, and houses both retail space and a custom built coffee bar. The store interior has been given a modular layout, to allow the space to be adapted to changing retail campaigns and demands.
Faye Toogood Studio’s interior is emphatically true to Carhartt’s principles of good, honest, robust design, in its approach, choice of materials and detailing. Aggregate-concrete flooring is combined with canvas wall units. Sculptural modular elements – ranging from mirror units to storage and seating - were commissioned from Isokon Plus, the pieces drawing their inspiration from artist Imi Knoebel’s Raum 19 series. Toogood has also referenced Carhartt WIP’s beginnings, in such features as post-industrial brass fixtures.
The design won the Retail Interiors Award for spaces of more than 200 square metres in the World Interiors News Awards 2018, which were celebrated in London last month. The awards judges described the winning design as “playful and yet chic, while remaining true to the brand DNA of Carhartt WIP.” The WIN Awards showcase the very best global creativity and talent in interior design across categories covering interior products, practice, projects and branding concepts.
