Winner spotlight: Cave Club

Brave and heroic: that was how the judges of the World Interiors News Awards 2018 summed up Cave Club, a nightclub in Guangzhou, China. The design, by Republic Metropolis Architecture, won the Bars: Experience Award in the prestigious WIN Awards 2018, which were celebrated in London in December.

Guangzhou is a busy port city with numerous bars. Cave Club’s design is unashamedly cave-like, with black finishes, semi-circular doors and windows and swirling organic sculptural elements that appear to distort the free flowing internal space. The club’s ceiling is mirrored, reflecting the feature lighting – and the club’s visitors.

Lighting heightens the sense of drama of the space, with bright green coloured lighting emphasising the club’s arches and its bar. The curving bar can be seen from every area of the club.

Cave Club is one of an international line up of projects recognised in the WIN Awards 2018. The WIN Awards showcase the very best global creativity and talent in interior design across a string of award categories covering interior products, practice, projects and branding concepts.
