St Hugo offers tastings, education in fine wines and gastronomy at its vineyard at Rowland Flat. The bar provides the base for these experiences, and embodies the St Hugo brand. It is therefore more than a bar space, housing a cellar with tasting room and dining room above.
A courtyard with aged stone walls and tables made of reclaimed bark leads visitors to the cellar ante space, which houses a mobile tasting bar for events. The cellar is also home to the bottle room, which contains a solid timber table, designed by studio-gram, as well as bespoke joinery for St Hugo’s wine collection.
The first floor dining room has a refined materials palette of brass, blackbutt timber and marble. A black cathedral ceiling, original stone walls and subdued lighting complete the aesthetic. By contrast, the tasting room alongside is naturally lit and allows panoramic views of the landscape.
Many details of this project were bespoke, with studio-gram designing seating, tables and lighting. The WIN Awards judges recognised the skill and care that has gone into the interior. “It is well detailed and shows great sensitivity,” they said.
The WIN Awards showcase the very best global creativity and talent in interior design across categories covering interior products, practice and projects as well as branding concepts. The full list of winners of the WIN Awards 2018 is here.
