Architect in perfect Pantone harmony

One of Denmark's leading designers has struck a perfect color balance with Pantone.

by Jez Abbott 08 February 2019

Pantone recently announced its color of the year for 2019 would be 'Living Coral' – a shade predominantly used in one of the flagship designs of architect Schmidt Hammer Lassen.

Vendsyssel Theatre is described by the practice as a unique cultural axis for the citizens and visitors to Hjørring in Northern Jutland.

The ambition for the centre was to create a building which blends into the surrounding environment while standing out as a new, vibrant organism in the city.

Vendsyssel Theatre is Denmark's first newly built theatre in over a century outside of Copenhagen and opened in 2017.

The main music hall features the Living Coral shade, proving the architect was ahead of the creative curve on colour trends.

The theatre is central to the artistic transformation of mainland Denmark, attracting visitors from across the country.

Since its opening, the theatre has demonstrated a refreshing architectural trend by becoming a tool for bringing people together through design.

And from inside the theatre’s musical hall, patrons can see the building’s illuminated façade in a vibrant shade of Living Coral.
