CRÈME / Jun Aizaki Architecture & Design has designed Mint Kitchen, a 50-seat Israeli fast casual restaurant on Unversity Place in the heart of New York’s West Village.
The fresh yet comforting design balances cool greys and natural greens, with the space revolving around an open kitchen layout and a copper coated Taboon Oven.
The eye-catching oven acts as a focal point around which elevated tiered seating creates a stage-like effect.
The kitchen’s backsplash is covered in Emerald Clear Moresque tiles, with quartz "ZODIAQ" London Sky countertops and tambour wood panelled facades.
The floor is a mixture of concrete tiles and grey stained wood, complemented by the plaster painted walls, oak millwork, blackened metal shelving structure, and ribbed glass sourced in Brooklyn.
Leather banquette seating in Garret Glazed bourbon is juxtaposed by a wall of luscious live plants hanging in woven cane and wood boxes.
Decorative string lighting, rope pendants and recessed downlights create general and accent illumination from the ceiling, while accent lighting at bar pods and linear LEDs on the shelves in extra warm colour temperatures evoke incandescent lighting ambiance.
CRÈME completely opened the facade of the storefront with aluminium glass doors that roll up on an operable overhead system to bring the neighbourhood in, offering an ample amount of natural light and outdoor seating during the warm summer months.
Mint Kitchen’s finishing touch is the orange neon logo placed inside the storefront to put its stamp on the West Village.
