2019 WAN Awards Entry: Honor of China Sales center - GEEDESIGN

Honor of China Sales center - GEEDESIGN is an entry in the Commercial category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

by Jessica Evans 03 May 2019 2019

Through the openness of space, Wang Weijie, the designer, makes the sales center no longer look rigid, brings the building a unique cultural charm, and turns the building into a floating sculpture through light and shadow.

The design work makes a strong visual impact in a limited space and doesn’t exert excessive pressure on the city and streets. Therefore, more contents were included on the second floor and was built into a structure of cantilever. This allowed more spaces to be released to create a floating feeling and a sense of art.

Inclusiveness and friendliness of the city and streets has been ensured within the design through combining functions and spaces naturally and ingeniously within the sales center.

At the entrance, there are two concavo-convex stone walls, with a limited height that won’t obstruct the view of passers-by on the sidewalk. The stone steps twist upwards bypassing the first stone wall - the waterway with water wave can be seen. Low stone walls separate the center from outside noise, whilst the turbulent water soothes the nerves.

The contrast between the light and the transparent glass on the first floor, and the thick and steady stones on the second floor, reinforces the strong visual impact and floating feeling. On the second floor, the inner atrium uses U-glass as the facade material to create a tranquil beauty of natural light.
