Sumptuous, practical and inspirational entries for 2019 WIN Awards to date

Over the next few weeks we are going to be highlighting some of the inspirational entries into this year’s WIN Awards. Today we’re highlighting a few of the inspiring design projects submitted to date.

by Alison Carter 08 May 2019 2019

Carp Joy Club, an entry in the Learning category, is the first kids’ club in Xiamen, the Carp Joy Club’s design draws inspiration from the fish of Ancient Mythology, The Classic of Mountains and Seas, creating lively and natural scenes in the book bar, the robot room, the piano room, the kids’ theatre. The project has a collection of more than 2,000 books, with fish-shaped decorations, bubble lamps and waves on the wall creating a colourful background.

Tom Mark Henry’s design for the One-off Homes category has completely updated a terrace in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Using minimalist design, a former run down 274sqm three-storey terrace in Darlinghurst has been pared back to its original features, and injected with contemporary details. A focus on the interplay of texture, combining hard and soft finishes and contrasting matt and gloss surfaces has created intrigue and depth in an otherwise monochromatic palette.

Crystal Bay Villa located in Sanya City on the southern end of China’s Hainan Island, is an entry in the Residential Developments category.  The designer has integrated humanitarian spirit and modern thinking, combining nature and pioneering spirit of contemporary design.

The Sky Tea House is a quiest oasis located in a busy centre in Fuzhou, China. An entry into the Bars, Restaurants, Clubs and Cafes category. The ancient rhyme of an ancient house can be felt everywhere even when you are just standing at the door. Completed in January 2018, the project is a renovation on a 200m2 tea house in Fuzhou, China. The owner’s joy in gathering rare stones is demonstrated with natural stones inside the house and together with traditional landscaping techniques, the changes among layers of light, shade and space, great aesthetic effects of calmness and conservation are created.
