Nature plays crucial role in several Chinese WIN Awards’ designs to date

Entries from China work with natural elements to enhance designs

by Alison Carter 14 May 2019 2019

Overlooking the whole city and distant Lishan Mountains, The Top of Cloud gives a breathtaking twist to the top floor of the highest building, the Greenland Center in Xi'an.  An entry in the Bars, Restaurants, Clubs and Cafés category, the space nurtures the coexistence of the traditional and the contemporary through a series of abstract installations. Upon entering the space, objects such as shadow puppet lanterns that represent the Shaanxi culture greet and guide visitors on their way to the restaurant.

Jingrui Majestic Mansion, an entry in the Residential developments category, takes "instant and eternity" as the main theme and integrates the instant change of nature and a variety of elements of rivers and lakes. The project was completed in January 2019 and covers 2,700 square meters. One of the design’s highlights is the dynamic art installation featuring a sculpture entitled Rise and Fall which has 820 OLED square lights to give the appearance of the rivers merging into the spectacular sea.

Described as a “park within a park”, Vanke Forest Park Sales Center is an entry in the Chain stores, Department Stores, Supermarkets, Concessions and Pop-Ups category.  Located near Chongqing Central Park, the building is sheltered by the 5,000 sq.m. metasequoia forest and the interior design has drawn inspiration from the forest and largely employs wooden materials in interiors and decorations.

The design of Longfor Mansion Customization Studio, an entry in the Studios, Co-Working Spaces and Home Office category reflects the need for high-quality management as well as residential, commercial and office space to meet developing lifestyles. The owner of this 400 square meters studio uses the first floor as an exhibition area.  The second floor is used for meetings and to house the sample selection, while the third floor is the designers’ working space.
