The Engine Room, London’s first boutique rowing studio, has been entered into the Spas, Healthclubs and Gyms category. This state-of-the-art fitness studio is situated within a 450 m2 Grade II listed converted church in Marylebone, London. It takes inspiration from the movement of oars and light on water of river Thames to create an interior that emboldens performers to push their limits. As the intensity of the rowing increases the lights on the walls change with the pace of the music changing from cool white to Yves Klein blue to vibrant red.
Fuzhou SCAC, Opera Hall is an entry in the Cultural Venues category. The opera hall is one of three performance spaces within the Fuzhou Strait Culture and Arts Centre with 1,600 seats and an extensive use of beautiful Chinese ceramics. The layout of the opera hall was inspired by the classical horseshoe shape with curved wall surfaces, enveloped in warm grey ceramic tiles and topped with 13 floral motifs to create the continuous 3000 m2 jasmine branch pattern.
Vanke Emerald Living Art Gallery is an entry in the Cultural Venues category. The designer has created a tranquil and beautiful living art gallery with minimum design, simple skills and modern art elements. A stone counter stands against the bare concrete wall, simple and elegant. The French window on the right introduces the natural light and views into the space. between hardness and softness, smoothness and roughness.
Bistecca, an intimate venue, which takes its cues from Italian dining focusing on one cut of meat and the best Italian wine, is an entry in the Bars, Restaurants, Clubs and Cafes category. Completed in mid 2018 it offers a separate bar, restaurant and wine room within the 138.9sqm space.The layout of Bistecca is transitory and designed to be experiential. The three separate spaces were conceived to map out the experience from beginning to end, which culminates in reflection on the full journey through the space.
