2019 WAN Awards:  Bamboo children activity centre -Zhanghaiao is an entry in the Education category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

This is a children's rural public welfare academy, which is located in xiamutang village, Wan 'an county, jiangxi province. It aims to solve the activity reading problem of rural left-behind children with low technology and low cost.

It faces many challenges: the project is limited in funding, the construction period is only over 20 days, the rural construction conditions are difficult, local residents lack of construction technology, etc.. This site is close to the ancestral temple, and it is also the only way for villagers to go up the mountain.

Its passability must be realized, that is to say, the passageway for future people shall be reserved in the construction plan. Secondly, between the site and the field, there is a large bamboo forest, through which the wind passes. Through the mottled bamboo, there is a faint view of the rice field in the distance. These feelings gave us the inspiration to create a giant bamboo forest, which can both limit the space and maintain the passability.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. Entries for the 2019 Awards are now open - for further information and to submit your entry please click here.
