This week we take a look at some of the stunning entries that have come in for the Bars, restaurants, clubs and cafés category in this year’s WIN Awards. The Hard Rock Hotel London from Scott Brownrigg opened it doors in April 2019, and now serves as a London landmark as well as a permanent home to celebrate the heritage of the music legends that have stayed at the iconic Marble Arch location, including Bob Dylan, Madonna, Jimi Hendrix and Diana Ross. The team spent two years developing the designs for the 370-seat café, GMT bar, restaurant, and concierge and lounge areas using the brand’s musical heritage as a starting point.
LW’s Zeste Cafe brief was to create a casual and vibrant café in between the Lobby & All Day Dining Space at the newly constructed Holiday Inn in Dubai Festival City. The new design of the café was to equally satisfy grab & go customers as well as dine in customers, and a mix of eclectic lighting & accessories adds a layer of casual and relatable design. As full height gypsum partitions were not an option, a combination of rope screens, Semi Open Timber shelves filled with eclectic accessories and plants were used as dividers between spaces and to create privacy between the different users. Another entry from LW in Dubai, Toro Toro, focuses on this popular bar on the Dubai social scene. The brief was to bring the venue up to date and make the design more intimate and relaxed in order to cater to a wider audience, all while keeping the Pan Latin essence of the venue. It was also important that iconic features, like the staircases, the cages, backlit onyx bars and the ceiling details, be maintained to create a seamless blend between the old and new design to bring in clientele without alienating valued existing patrons.
Situated on the top floor of the tallest building in Manchester, 20 Stories - from CetraRuddy Architecture honors the city’s past while creating a dynamic, modern space that speaks to the future. Designed as a “garden in the sky” and inspired by the way of nature and the ever-changing Manchester skyline, the space embraces elements of luminosity and reflectivity while incorporating tactile materials, charges of color and organic forms.
