Hotel & Other Overnight Accommodations

Sleep nestled in innovative and luxurious interiors

These entries in the Hotels, bed-and-breakfast facilities and other overnight accommodation category of the 2019 WIN Awards reflect successful partnerships of comfort, care and design.

Eighteen individual geodesic domes, called Pods, make up the Whitepod, Zen Suite resort from Montalba Architects.  The pod design was inspired by the concept of Zen as well as Wu Ting movement theory, which postulates that "everything is connected, everything is energy.” The five movements (or type of energies) are each connected to an element; the translation to the earth, the exchange of energy to the water, the evolution of time to the wood, the inner energy to the metal, and finally the external energy to fire.

Moxy Frankfurt City Center by JOI-Design Innenarchitekten A D joehnk + partner mbB met the brief to create new European guestroom brand standards in the new-build, 7.300 sqm Moxy Frankfurt City Center located where the headquarters of Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper once stood. Public areas feature allusions to typography, journals and the nearby stock exchange, including a geometric bull sculpture and a gigantic stuffed teddy bear, while visible ceiling pipes with carefully orchestrated lights and exposed concrete walls form an industrial vibe in line with the warehouse district’s street culture.

Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik, an entry from Goddard Littlefair, is situated just above Dubrovnik’s old town.  The hotel was originally built in the 1890s and went on to serve the great Mediterranean cruise liners docking in the city in the early 20th century. The main design challenge was to ensure that the new interiors reflected the hotel’s history, whilst also ensuring it had a thoroughly contemporary sophistication. This was achieved by layering glamour into each individual space via a Riviera palette, soft detailing and a 1920s yachting influence, whilst at the same time balancing this with clean and contemporary lines.

EDG Design’s,Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is located on the rugged Oregon Coast, USA. The lodge celebrates Oregon-style hospitality, offering visitors luxe amenities against the backdrop of sand-dune mountains and iconic Haystack Rock. The design embraces the local landscape with an aesthetic and sentiment that is uniquely Pacific City. Guests are greeted by a raging wood fire and social serpentine leather sectional, and the lodge-like feeling extends into the bar and dining area, which features sheepskin touches and modern furnishings.
