By making full use of the dramatic height drop and ingenious angles, the centre moulds into the natural part of the mountain and can be seen from a mile away.
Virtua Samson Cancer Center - FCA is an entry in the Adaptive Reuse category. The 48,000 square-foot Virtua Samson Cancer Center opened its doors to patients in October 2018. The facility in Moorestown, NJ, USA, provides a full range of oncology services to the South Jersey residents in a White Box, “supported” by three white column legs, with an implied fourth leg absent. This reflects that cancer isn’t a normal event, the White Box isn’t a normal, straightforward entry point – it’s off-balance.
An entry in the Commercial category the Innovation Curve, entered by Form4 Architecture, is a 24,702 square-meter, LEED Platinum campus on the edge of the Stanford Research Park. The mid-level blue horizontal ribbon shading element follows the shape of the classic R&D timeline; from creative spark, though trial and tribulation, to welcome success. Ever conscious of the importance of sustainability, the envelope shading strategy, conceived in a lyrical way, takes on a form evocative of this entrepreneurial spirit.
The Lone Tree Pedestrian Bridge entered by Fentress Architects in the Transport category meets the needs of a thriving residential and business community with a fast-growing population in the City of Lone Tree, Colorado. Children, walkers, joggers, and bicyclists no longer have to avoid Lincoln Avenue’s 90,000 cars a day, this essential connection between the north and south areas of Lone Tree unites open parkland, businesses, schools, and residential communities.
