Studio Dental II from Montalba Architects is situated within a rapidly developing neighborhood in San Francisco’s financial district. A conceptual ‘lantern’ within the dark building core communicates a volumetric sense of scale, luminescence, and transparency to serve as a framework for a series of operatories within. By engaging the pedestrian streetfront the design aims to project openness, warmth, and serenity.
The American International Hospital from ONG&ONG is one of the first hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, designed and operated to American hospital standards. With its capacity of 120 beds on 10 storeys, the interiors bridge the blurred boundary between medical space and a luxury hotel’s experience, replicating the latter’s positive effects to improve the psychology of patients and promoting healing and recovery for the body.
Another entry in this category, the redevelopment of Joseph Brant Hospital involved the construction of a new seven storey patient care tower consisting of 400,000 square feet and 172 beds, as well as 120,000 square feet of renovations to the existing buildings. Some 75% of the patient rooms have lake views; the rest have views to the historical Niagara Escarpment. Public spaces offer views of Lake Ontario, and the hospital’s cherished “Protected Wood Lot”.
And finally, to keep people in good health and out of a medical setting, the Jiyu Spa, designed by the Shanghai Hip-Pop Design Team is an entry in Spa, health clubs and gyms category. In this project, visitors are immersed in the large-scale peaceful picture where senses are awakened by the visible world. The word "feeling" was important to the whole design a dramatic effect was created by the transparent and reflective glasses, used to show the hidden contents and to freeze-frame the moments.
