Rapt Studio’s installation at Milan Design Week in April 2019 explored the intersection of spatial experience and emotional connection. Called Tell Me More, it invited visitors to slow their pace, engage with the space, interact with each other, and leave feeling part of something larger than themselves. The setting was a vault carved under tracks leading to Milan’s central station. The raw 2400-square-foot space provided a powerful canvas on which the Rapt team layered a design that attracted 20,000 visitors from across the globe.
As guests first entered they were greeted by personal drapery-clad “stages,” where they were presented with a question posed by the stranger who came before them. Upon reflecting, they were asked to leave a query for the next guest before moving beyond mirrored walls into a lounge.
There, lights fell from the vault ceiling above; among them hung threads with the questions suspended. As guests struck up conversations, they made personal connections with those around them. As the week went along, the ceiling populated with cards. The thousands of questions written in a wide array of languages completed the vision. We envisioned Tell Me More as a living embodiment of human interaction – an exercise in placemaking celebrating connection and conversation. A place for storytelling, with a memory all its own.
