Bourne View, the new cutting-edge 68 bed care home for Colten Care Ltd, opened in April 2019. An iconic building drawing on art-deco influences from the surrounding Poole and Sandbanks area, it embodies an oasis of calm modern living, carefully balancing striking design with the function of delivering award-winning care.

The building’s heart is the commanding entrance atrium, supported by polished plaster columns running double height into textured deco leaf tiling. Cafes, cosy sitting rooms and a contemporary bistro flow from this hub out to living walled courtyards. Opulent deco chandeliers and carefully considered lighting flood the home, while natural light streams through from numerous private gardens, stepped into the hill plot. Refined art-deco details and a bold colour palette combined with gold finishes and ornate wallpapers give a hint of deco glitz. The contrasting aluminium clad roof pod offers an impressive orangery style bar, flowing into a roof garden with views to the sea.

The 3-year project, on a challenging sloping plot, achieved a uniquely successful balance of design and function, through a continuous collaboration between the in-house design, construction and operation teams. The clinical elements required to offer the highest level of care, were discreetly designed into the building, not only providing an efficient working environment but giving an overall impression of a grand coastal home, with no practical reminders. This stream-lined integration of both elements ensures Bourne View surpasses all expectations for a care home.
