Damen Green Line Station transit facility will provide much needed connectivity, convenience and amenities to residents, workers and visitors to the re-emerging neighborhood west of downtown Chicago. The station will support visitors to events to the United Center, one of the City’s largest entertainment venues. The headhouse is set back from the street to provide adequate space for crowd surges before and after events, while providing an outdoor space for the neighborhood to further enjoy as well.

Yangtze River Tourism Terminal of Zigui Port is less than 4 kilometers away from the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric project in the world. The Yangtze River is the most important cultural landscape belt of China, and the building was fitted into the space between the river and the dam This project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

The design for the Seoul Yeoui-Naru Ferry Terminal creates a unique Seoul landmark and a meeting point on the edge of the Han River. A public ferry terminal, it sits half on the water and half on the land providing a seamless connection between the two, linking visitors and residents with the river.  A water courtyard, created by encircling part of the river with the building, provides a multi-functional gathering space and ecological zone and allows people to experience this huge waterway in an intimate setting.

The Isle of Man Ferry Terminal is designed to replace the existing facility in Liverpool. The terminal is required to cater for current vessels as well as a third new larger vessel. The new terminal will provide ferry crossings to and from Douglas, Isle of Man, operated by the Steam Packet Company.

The building is designed as a simple, high quality ‘pavilion’ to complement rather than compete with its historical setting. It is horizontal in form, with a largely glazed first floor sat over a heavier podium at ground floor level with overhanging eaves and projecting plant areas, and roof lights in the ‘fifth elevation’.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. All 2019 entries can be seen here.
