The design method of a “courtyard mode” refers to the maximum internal public space by arranging the functional entity of buildings along the boundary of the site. in this mode, Yongjiang Experimental School of Jiangbei District, Ningbo - DC ALLIANCE  becomes “the learning courtyard”. The design is able to satisfy the functional requirements of school buildings and concurrently maximize the public space. The “courtyard” mode has three main advantages: first, the maximum public space and the highest efficiency; second, the integrated and unique city image; third, the strong sense of space belongings and security from their own place.

Nestled into the landscape, the large, undulating canopy of Cal Poly Pomona Student Services Building - CO Architects makes a powerful visual statement, establishes a new landmark, and shelters three accessible floors of student services and associated administrative functions. The building fulfills several campus goals: represent the university’s aspirations and mission; provide a welcoming place of arrival; enhance delivery of services to students, faculty and staff; encourage administrative collaboration; and allow for future flexibility. The program provides a series of consolidated service centers for a welcoming, transparent and efficient student service experience.

University of Maryland, A. James Clark Hall - Ballinger is the flagship building for the University’s School of Engineering that fosters broad interdisciplinary convergence in a dynamic innovation environment. The program includes flexible wet/dry labs and workspaces, a vivarium, general engineering teaching labs, meeting spaces, active learning classrooms, a flexible Forum, prototyping and a major team-based Innovation Makerspace for students.

The Nanshan Foreign Language School - Studio Link-Arc, LLC project deliberately breaks away from conventional school design in favor of a sectional organization of spaces in order to maximize access to green space and daylight. The campus is conceived as a sweeping, horizontal garden that stands in sharp contrast with the ever denser, ever more vertical urban environment. Given Shenzhen's hot and humid climate, the design introduces a weather protective system formed by hangovers, shading boxes, and aluminum panels, based on a rigorous solar study.

As the Wentworth Institute of Technology Center for Engineering, Innovation and Sciences - Leers Weinzapfel Associates program transitions from engineering technology to engineering and innovation, the new development creates a dynamic environment for multi-disciplinary collaboration among students. The Center is located on a midblock site at the heart of the Institute’s urban campus and plays a pivotal role in the campus plan. The building acts as a filter between the two sides of the extended campus—the quad and the city—and strengthens the pedestrian pike that links them.

The New Campus Development of Chu Hai College of Higher Education - Rocco Design Architects Associates Ltd. design signifies a highly linked & connected institution. It looks into the compact urban condition of Hong Kong itself and epitomizes a miniature city, dense. The spatial organization maximizes density by stacking blocks of different programs vertically over a podium of communal activities. The elevation of the building reflects an authentic expression of its complex section. The new campus in essence alludes to the creation of a new character: a new rudiment that would form the root of new knowledge for generations to come.

Sydney’s Taronga Zoo is at the forefront of animal conservation, with a commitment to the importance of education and scientific discovery in the fight against wildlife under threat. NBRS ARCHITECTURE collaborated with Taronga to create Taronga Institute of Science and Learning - NBRS ARCHITECTURE that supports this commitment. The environmentally sensitive solution is in keeping with Taronga’s sustainable ethos, holding a 6 star-green-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

With the mission to be a centre of excellence of international cuisine, the International Culinary Institute - Leigh & Orange will provide culinary training to promote the artistry of culinary profession. Surrounded by heritage buildings in Pokfulam, this building is designed to harmonise with its environment, recessed windows are widely applied to both west and east facades, providing effective shading hence decreases cooling load of the building.
