Perfect harmony: hotels and their surroundings

Designed to fit their surroundings, these hotels are the pillars of superb design

by Emilia Nuzzaci 18 September 2019 2019

Located in the Glarus Alps is where Swedish design agency Stylt created The Hide Hotel, Flims - Stylt Trampoli AB; an independent hotel. The hotel fuses progressive alpinist interiors with cool luxe and voguish sophistication. Much of the interior design, patterns and colours are inspired by the surrounding nature and the geodes of the Alps, the partially hollow rocks that hides a sparkling microcosm of colourful minerals. In the same way, The Hide holds the unexpected, just waiting to be discovered.

The extraordinary natural surroundings of the peninsula of Baja California with its semi-desert landscape in shades of ocher, contrasting with the deep blue of the Sea of Cortez, provides an ideal selected context for the construction of a the Solaz - Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos hotel. The project had to solve the different typologies of this hotel’s suites and rooms, the idea was that these emerge from the topography that merges harmoniously with the sandy beach.

Kasiiya Papagayo - AW² Architecture Workshop is not a hotel. Kasiiya is part of nature, built on timber platforms from natural materials, it leaves no scar on its landscape. From the very beginning, the conservation of the tropical forest has been paramount, the intention throughout the project was not to have minimal impact on the environment, but zero. This eco-concept removes the seasoned luxury traveller from their comfort zone and succinctly resumes the project’s grounding philosophy: appreciate the Earth without consuming it.

With interiors by AW², Silversands Grenada offers a striking and minimalist design that brings the surrounding landscape into focus. The Silversands Grenada - AW² Architecture Workshop  aesthetic blends authenticity, nature, and modernity in a stunning display of wild beauty ofGrand Anse beach. The resort’s architecture, in all its simple forms and materials, defines the identity of the resort. The lines and spaces are all arranged to make the location and surroundings the star, while offering the best possible discovery of the Caribbean’s last secret hideaway.

Completed in August 2018, PURO Kraków Kazimierz - Conran and Partners is a new flagship hotel in the heart of Kazimierz, Krakow’s historic Jewish quarter. The ‘Bohemian Modern’ concept, represents a fusion between the energy, history, authenticity of the location. This conceptual narrative provided a rich source of inspiration for the creation of a distinct PURO hotel firmly rooted in its location. The design clearly references elements of the area’s past, including its industrial heritage, while maintaining a strong residential feel.
