2028 Olympics: updating the healthcare resource

An insight into the future for global healthcare

by Nav Pal 30 September 2019 2019 Future Projects

RBB Architects Inc. was commissioned by the County of Los Angeles to design, plan, replace and consolidate major outdated components of the Harbor UCLA teaching hospital; a 77-acre campus, which has been selected to be the official hospital of the 2028 Olympics.

The purpose of this project was to create a hospital that promotes healing and wellbeing, as well as being a state of the future facility. The design carefully takes into consideration the needs of the patients and the hospital employees – creating an environment conducive to improving healing and patient outcomes.

The basis for the design of the Outpatient Tower is a simple rectangle driven by the rigorous modular design of clinical functions. In order to maximize the design opportunity we resolved to enhance the building design by creating a dynamic and playful envelope that is unique to this type of healthcare facility.

The Inpatient Tower is comprised of two triangular nursing towers connected at the heart of the building by a bright and welcoming grand lobby for family and visitors. Each floor of this 8 story tower houses 28 beds and has been configured to create a compassionate and healing environment that improves patient outcomes and encourages collaboration.
