Where water meets land: outstanding architecture

These waterfront developments embrace and work with their natural surroundings perfectly

Where Perth meets the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean, the Scarborough Beach precinct has long been a treasured beachside destination for locals and tourists alike. From an early morning surf to watch a spectacular sunset that farewells the Australian day, Scarborough is an established icon and expression of WA urban beach culture. To address the needs of a growing community, the public realm infrastructure was well overdue for an upgrade. Two new promenades frame the waterfront, and within them spaces for recreation, relaxation, play and spectating have been created. Collaborations with Aboriginal artists enrich the design with place-specific narratives.

Tus-Design Group designed Suzhou Dongtaihu Lake Warehouse for Flood Control. The scenery along the East Taihu Lake border is beautiful, and many people go there for camping. The warehouse will change the original landscape. So, they chose a hidden place to build the warehouse. The construction site is driven by a small branch of the bank road. It is separated from a small river between the main landscape of the lake bank, extending into the water. This site, in the large location, ensures the maximum retention of the lake bank landscape, minimum change degree, whether from the bank, or from the lake. The location is the most hidden sight of the landscape.
