Edinburgh Marina Waterfront Technology Hub set to create 450 new jobs

Edinburgh Marina Holdings, the developer of the landmark Edinburgh Marina Development, has announced a new project to create a purpose-built, waterfront technology hub, which will form part of the £500m world class development.

by Katie Henry 06 November 2019

The new purpose-built technology hub will specialise in key data science and technology, including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, FinTech, Quantum Computing and Data Analytics. It will include multiple offices and co-working spaces, a plethora of formal and informal break out areas available for networking, support and events, as well as a coffee bar, shops and restaurants that will contribute towards an active and vibrant new high street.

The plans have come from public demand for additional office space in Edinburgh, after reports from the Scottish Enterprise reported a 77% increase in the number of tech start-ups in Scotland, ahead of the overall UK average of 595 and London at 76% over recent years. The waterfront technology hub will not only offer state-of-the-art facilities, but will also support local residents, businesses and visitors of Edinburgh Marina, as well as creating 450 employment opportunities in the process of development.

The world class project will also include new homes for sale and rent, a luxury living development for retirees, and 427 full-serviced berths, able to accommodate boats of up to 40m plus in length, with 24 hour access at all states of tide. It will also include the Hyatt Regency Spa and Conference hotel with serviced apartments, as well as the Chestnut medical hub and neighbourhood shopping. Overall the development will create over 1,300 permanent new employment opportunities for the local community and a high percentage of affordable homes.

This exciting development will help us deliver on our objective for the economic regeneration of Granton. It will provide much needed office space and substantial employment opportunities with the provision of flexible low-cost space for start-ups in a growing digital economy.
