Shine X, Brunei’s first “bootcamp-inspired” boutique fitness studio, is revolutionizing the workout game in southeast Asia.

In pursuit of promoting the physical and mental benefits of group exercise, Shine X was launched in July 2019 by Her Royal Highness Princess ´Azemah Ni´matul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar.

The luxurious 2,600 sq ft studio was maximized to foster a sense of community and encourage human interaction. An illuminated corridor leads to well-appointed locker rooms with opulent showers, keyless lockers with USB charging stations, and a blow dry bar with endless grooming supplies. Customized fitness equipment, an expansive retail merchandise system, and plush hangout spaces reflect the Shine X brand.

Sustainability was a significant consideration in the design, and gathering nooks fashioned from reclaimed wood indigenous to Brunei’s rainforest were discreetly located along the corridor to encourage conversation, camaraderie, and help friendships flourish. Dark, adventurous color schemes were selected to reduce inhibition and promote confidence with careful attention to lighting and composition.
More than 400 high-output LED fixtures were programmed to produce a series of ever-changing light shows and captivating atmospheres. Suspended X beams were backlit and custom, laser-cut acoustic baffles suspended from the ceiling with sound mitigation techniques to reduce noise transmission.

The 12-month turnkey project was a global collaboration among industry partners, vendors, contractors, and trainers who all worked in harmony. Despite international shipping hurdles and aggressive timelines, the quality of work exceeded expectation and the result was a rewarding, seamless execution of the clients’ vision.
