2020 WAN Awards entry: Taikang Community Wu Garden - Taikang Healthcare Investment Holdings, Co. Ltd

Taikang Community Wu Garden by Taikang Healthcare Investment Holdings, Co. Ltd is an entry in the Healthcare Category of the 2020 WAN Awards

by Copy taken from 2020 entry 26 May 2020 2020

The Taikang Community Wu Garden is a multi-functional assisted living complex devoted to the wellness care of over 1,300 senior citizens in China.

Roaming and appreciation of changing views are enabled by the integrated elements between traversing paths interchanging spectacularly from one zone to another, mapping a visual and physical network of interconnected layers and depths.

The overall design of the building maintains the classic regional characteristics of Suzhou’s “powder wall tile”. The traditional gable has been reinvented to become a unique decorative language on the facade.

The introduction of gray lines on the exterior wall of the building evokes the calligraphic strokes of ancient Chinese painting in a silent tribute to Suzhou, the cultural capital that once led the peak of ancient art with the Wu School of Painting. The application of large-area glass curtain walls effectively improves indoor light illuminance and creates sustainable value.

The modern geometric skylight on the roof merges with the light in the interior space, and the fifth facade is ordered and rigorously arranged through the contrast of the shadow relationship and the arrangement of the density.

Under the physical center created by architecture and flowers and trees, the design also pursues the beauty of artistic conception. Through the arrangement of plants and trees within a limited range, the garden space is rich and varied, enhancing the depth of the landscape and the change of natural taste, which evokes the ambience of Suzhou classical gardens in elegance.
