Retreat in Rosé is the result of a six month renovation of a historical 25 sqm apartment. Situated on the ground floor of a landmarked building in the center of Munich, it is accessed via the building’s courtyard.

Originally part of a retail shop on the street front, the space of 270 square foot was converted to a one bedroom apartment around the turn of the millennium. The result was an encapsulated and inconvenient room division. Thus the young designers of FV2 Architektur, commissioned in 2019 removed the load bearing walls, replaced them with columns and steel beams, to maximise the experience of generosity on a small scale.

A saloon-door in alignment with a detachable timber element functions as a visual barrier between bedroom and shower whilst natural light as well as natural air circulation are still guaranteed.

The single-sourced design of the furnished apartment enabled a consistent concept in materiality and form. Precious details, i.e. handles in leather, kitchen knobs in brass, a fitted bath screen made of oak fins and tiles in special concrete optic transport high quality.

A built-in-closet creates space for further storage. Other measures included the repair of electrical installations and the modernisation of sanitary- and heating installations.

To renovate the apartment of the four storey corner building, which was designed in 1882, it was mandatory to get permission from the Bavarian heritage protection law.

Special carpenter work with a great attention to detail is resembled throughout the Retreat in Rosé.
