CBA Axle, South Eveleigh by Woods Bagot is an entry in the Corporate offices (more than 10,000 sqm) category of the 2020 WIN Awards

CBA Axle focuses on the bank’s continued commitment to innovation, learning, and the wellbeing of its people. The workplace design responds directly to CBA’s vision for a world-class environment that supports creative, rather than process-driven, thinking and working.

With CBA’s workplace strategy shifting to an environment more akin to a tech company, the brief was interpreted as an ‘uber collaborative’ workplace. Developed as ‘the smartest of smart buildings’, it is equally committed to being incredibly human - keeping its scale, architectural strategy, amenity and workplace philosophy people-centric.

Applying ‘people first’ urban design principles, Axle’s sprawling 5,600 sq m floorplates pursue a local identity and sense of place. Conceived as a series of unfolding urban landscapes, the workplace reveals itself only as one moves through - imparting a distinctly human scale.

Targeting 6-Star Green Star - Interiors v1.2 and 5-star NABERS Tenancy Energy rating the intent is on optimising performance and supporting health and sustainability. Crafted with timeless sensibility, the approach considers the longevity of materials and finishes to create beautiful, durable environments - defining factors in sustainability.

Accommodating 4,000 people across 42,000 sq m, spaces are diverse and highly porous. There are workspaces, cafes and smart-office apps for everything: access to the building, booking a space, finding a colleague, reporting a fault, activating a locker, and ordering from bountiful catering options.

Work happens anywhere and people have the freedom to find their ideal space at any time of day (the building is activated 18 hours/7 days a week), including the wellbeing and rest pods.
