Luxury interior and architecture design practice SHH completed a two-floor headquarters for leading Chinese developer, KWG Group holdings, in December 2019.

The twenty-storey building that hosts KWG’s new headquarters is in an office campus just west of the city centre of Shanghai. A cultural meeting between European and Chinese design was the main philosophy behind the new 32,500 sq ft workspace which unfolds over levels 19 and 20. The space has been designed by SHH to be client-focused, making a strong first impression.

SHH successfully delivered this project by offering equal consideration to all end-users of the space in the design response, including clients, executives, and general staff members and creating quality spaces throughout.

The end-design is sophisticated and brings fluidity with a fine balance between open-plan and cellular environments which encourages team working and communication while preserving privacy. The general workspace has been planned in clusters of open-plan desks, interspersed with built volumes such as meeting rooms, breakout spaces and a workshop, avoiding the problems created by large expanses of open plan desking.

The materials palette includes timber, stone, leather, fabrics, laminate glass, mesh and brass highlights. Colour introduced through furniture and rugs create a hospitality like feel in the VIP spaces, while soft shapes and curves bring a sense of calm. Walkways are broken up with integrated lights and planting to bring the outside in.
