2020 WAN Awards entry: Sugang Walking Complex Design, Shunde district, Foshan, Guangdong - NOFFICE

Sugang Walking Complex Design, Shunde district, Foshan, Guangdong by NOFFICE is an entry in the Future Projects - Urban Design Category of the 2020 WAN Awards

by Copy taken from 2020 entry 08 June 2020 2020 Future Projects

Sugang is prominently located in Shunde District, Foshan city.

It is close to Shunfeng Mountain historical scenic spot to the north and opposite to the Shunde Government to the south crossing an arterial road. At the same time, due to the blocking of Shunfeng Mountain and the arterial road, today Sugang has poor accessibility and messy environment as well as desolate landscape. On the other hand, its slow life, native vegetation and small-scale architectural texture are well preserved. In order to stimulate the vitality of Sugang, urban design needs to enhance its accessibility and also maintain slow life.

We have enhanced the accessibility of Sugang through a wide range of road network design. Meanwhile, integrated the main street (Huahai Street) with the north and south ends into a super Walking Complex under a dumbbell structure. The South Complex is connected to the Shunde Government and surrounding areas across the arterial road, while the North Complex connects Sugang at the foot of Shunfeng Mountain with the historic Taiping Tower on the top.

The two are connected by a living street (Huahai Street), which limits the vehicle speed. The Walking Complex combines different slope and inclusive paths (such as flat road, ramp, stair) with shortcuts or roaming routes of different attributes(such as commuting, shopping, transfer, fitness, stroll) and various public spaces and facilities(such as hill, mountain, creek, park, square, community center, commercial-cultural facilities). Comfortable walking, is suitable for all ages.

Completion time: Year 2023
Size :24.5 ha
