One of Shanghai’s most significant industrial properties becomes a thriving city hub.

The Harbour City is a forest of skyscrapers with a maximum height is set at 150 metres. Instead of designing to the provisioned maximum height, Benoy strategically designed the tower to just 91.5 metres tall. This creates a point of differentiation from the surrounding high-rise developments amidst Shanghai’s ever-changing skyline.

The purity and clarity of a crystal inspired the concept for the tower facade. The diamond was another themed employed, which reflected the numerous financial enterprises housed in the building. The ‘diamond’ shape applied on the façade lends an elegant yet minimalist design form and creates a feeling of infinite continuity. The stereoscopic effect of this form also leaves a strong and lasting impression to all visitors. In the evening, the shimmering and delicate tower easily captures people’s attention when seen from the Puxi side.

The main part of the tower is wrapped with the unitized curtain wall system which consists of hollow laminated glass with low-E glazing and anodized aluminum panels. This energy-saving material not only serves to produce the clear appearance of the building but also creates the pleasant interior climate.

Anodized aluminum is not widely used in commercial and office buildings due to its high cost. However, its strong metal gloss was key the façade’s powerful visuals and highly suitable for the design concept which delivered a unique and prominent look both day and night. We thank the client for supporting this application.
