2020 WAN Awards entry: KNO Nursery - HIBINOSEKKEI + Youji no Shiro

KNO Nursery by HIBINOSEKKEI + Youji no Shiro is an entry in the Education Category of the 2020 WAN Awards

by Copy taken from 2020 entry 09 June 2020 2020 Future Projects

This is a nursery for children between 0 to 2 years of age in Unzen, Nagasaki, Japan.

The challenge is to solve the problem that many young children receive negative effects from too much screen time like smartphone and tablet which adults give them. It’s certain that direct communication is good for children to develop mindset and speech ability. So, we create eight unique book corners to stimulate children’s interests in books and cultivate their imagination, creativity, communication ability and speech ability.

Also, we challenge eco-friendly building by using Japanese traditional architectural style, ‘eaves’ to use electric appliance like air conditioner less. Moreover, we choose ‘red’ color as the exterior and interior. This color’s idea is got from the local soil color for children to feel and learn the regional characteristics.

All the information about how to enter the 2020 WAN Awards is here.
