Lyons Place is a recently completed innovative mixed-use scheme in North West London comprising 76 high quality new tenure-blind homes.

A retail offering underpins the 125,000 sq ft development on the ground floor with a standout frontage designed by Sir Terry Farrell. This iconic part of the scheme includes the playful addition of a 1930s style petrol station. In a nod to the building’s former life, the striking blue, glazed brick corner and three, larger-than-life, ‘London-Bus-red’ petrol pumps create an interactive frontage.

In addition to the exciting retail frontage, Farrells used a striking exterior to break the existing Edgware Road elevation into a series of terraced houses. It also uses the façade’s vertical recessed metal spandrels to continue to break the mass and tie in nicely with the streetscape, whilst using bricks inspired by the Maida Vale area.

The design also maximises outdoor space, with each residence benefitting from its own balcony or terrace. The building itself surrounds a landscaped courtyard, featuring seating, low level planting and a three-storey high green wall. The scheme’s materials are hand selected and include timber, natural stone and craft elements.

Situated between Maida Vale and Little Venice, Lyons Place provides an urban oasis for its future residents. Farrells’ brief was to incorporate elements of the area’s diverse surroundings into the design, whilst creating a desirable residential scheme, supporting the needs of the surrounding area. As local architects, Farrells were selected to design Lyons Place for their localised knowledge and emotive ties.
