The Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine has expanded its capabilities with the new Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Building in its downtown Chicago campus. The 58,157 m2, 13-story Phase I building will be a state-of-the-art facility for biomedical research. Phase II will consist of an 18-story vertical tower addition, doubling the research space for to 111,484 m2 to support 550+ Principal Investigators and 3,300 graduate students.

The new building physically connects to the existing Robert H. Lurie research building, creating a large contiguous floorplate. The unique plan profile preserves views from the existing labs and is subdivided into three distinct neighborhoods. At its center is a series of stacked two-story collaboration hubs that drives interaction and creates a dynamic, collegial environment in which important scientific discoveries will take place.

Through an integrated design and construction team process, the project has achieved LEED Gold.
