Lakeview Village, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
From Power Generation to Community Regeneration
Lakeview Village is a transformation of a 71 ha brownfield site, formally the location of a coal-fired generating station. The larger Lakeview community, long cut off from its waterfront, pro-actively engaged the City of Mississauga and Provincial authorities to create a vision for the future of the lands. This community involvement in the process from its outset is a leading feature of Lakeview: the genesis of the project was local.
The goals of the Lakeview Village Master Plan, set out by the client and the City at the start of the project, was as follows:
●Balance the needs of an engaged local community with progressive planning goals;
●Enhance and integrate with the existing urban frameworks of Lakeview, nearby Port Credit and Mississauga as a whole;
●Become a desired waterfront destination for the neighborhood, city and region;
●Bring the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and Trans Canada Trail back to Lake Ontario;
●Reconnect residents with the waterfront by providing public access, green space and amenities on renewed lands that have been sequestered for industrial uses for many decades

The mixed use residential and workplace community (1,150,000 gsm) incorporates these goals by creating a framework that provides a robust connected public realm network, tightly-knit block structure, district-scale sustainable infrastructure using leading edge green initiatives, and a sound logic for transit-supported density. Lakeview will feature an innovative Sustainability Hub incorporating district energy, vacuum waste, and a learning/education center.
