This unique and extravagant retail environment was intended to disrupt the way we experience luxury retail. Gentle Monster and Sybarite were engaged to design a futuristic utopia to showcase global luxury brands.

The team from Light IQ & Studio Illumine were challenged to design to a programme of 12 months from concept to completion and full coordination with the teams in Beijing.

Lighting design lead by Light IQ, had to be innovative but practical and flexible as the retail avenues are intended to change content every 4 months.

Innovative solutions include corridors with under 10 lux average, in order to maximise exposure of shop fronts, as well as white-tunable lighting on the ground floor, in order to connect the customer experience with the time of the day.

The new designed signages are a significant departure from the conventional way of signage lighting. Tenant's guidelines produced, ensure maximum contrast between circulation lighting and store interior views.

Art installations, robots and futuristic props assisted in the look of the areas, designed to showcase the peak of high technology. These installations serve as the perfect backdrop for social media interaction.

Studio Illumine monitored the aggressive and short construction period, as well as the fastidious process of local substitution of lighting equipment. All of the specifications were locally sourced, which had to be individually approved and tested to avoid compromise in quality. Upon installation, meticulous adjustments and refocusing of equipment were made on site to ensure the final effects conforms with the intended design.

Last year more than 40 countries took part in the WIN Awards with strong showings from Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. And we saw some truly outstanding interior designs, take a look at the winners from last year here.
