Akamai Technologies, a leader in the Content Delivery Network industry, created a new 44,600-square-meter headquarters in Kendall Square. This workplace forges connections across its entire workforce, from Cambridge to those working around the globe. It’s a place that encourages collaboration, fosters ideation, and drives innovation.

Consolidating six locations into one new home, Akamai’s headquarters offers a singular, integrated campus, strategically designed around a continuous path of collaboration from the front door through the top floor. Conference rooms paired with team and huddle rooms join destinations like libraries, cafés, game rooms, and a cafeteria to create the “AkaMile,” a mile-long path of centralized collaborative program that separates the quiet, focused work from the noise, and encourages employees to get away from their desks and engage with one another. Interconnecting stairs tie the floors together, promoting uninterrupted circulation through the building as well as a wellness strategy to keep Akamai employees healthy and strong, putting Akamai on target to be one of the largest WELL Building certified projects in New England.

The interiors offer variety at every turn. From the colorful, textured material palette to the audio visual equipment in every room; from the quiet areas for focused work to the ample alternative working environments; and from the centralization of collaborative spaces to the multiple amenities throughout the floors, Akamai’s workplace supports opportunity and choice for all its employees. All of this, while helping to clearly communicate the company’s story to its employees, its customers, and everyone passing by their new home.

Last year more than 40 countries took part in the WIN Awards with strong showings from Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific. And we saw some truly outstanding interior designs, take a look at the winners from last year here.
