Pablo Muñoz Payá Arquitectos design for positive dentist experience

The Comisura Dental Surgery is housed in a former business premises in the city of Elda, in Alicante, Spain

by Alison Carter 03 August 2020

Pablo Muñoz Payá Arquitectos wanted the centre to generate positive experiences and create a quiet, friendly and optimistic environment at the dental surgery.

The design covers 185 sq m over two floors. The main floor houses the dentistry facilities including four dental surgeries and essential supporting areas and the first floor, with a more private character, hosting the staff room, dressing room, private bathroom, machinery room and a large room for meetings and training.

The reception area as 6m high large windows and plants subtly separate the reception area and the waiting room.

The use of two types of paving in the entrance enrich the space with a ‘multi-use’ porcelain material to create furnishing and vertical paraments and flooring.

A cosy area in the shape of a gabled roofed house was designed for children.  Connected to the waiting room by a glass wall, adults can see the interior of the children’s area from within the waiting room's tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.  The children's room is created completely in pink, a colour which along with a dark blue, makes up the corporate colours of the surgery.

Despite the necessary functionality in the dental surgeries, the spaces use colour, wood and new technology.  Patients, who for a large part of their treatment will be lying looking at the ceiling, will find there a warm parament of oak panels complemented with television screens which combined with headphones, offer an all-round experience.

The architecture and interior design was carried out by Pablo Muñoz Payá Arquitectos. The project team consisted of Sonia García Pérez and Pablo Marcos Vila.
