2020’s outstanding hotel interiors from around the world

Hotel visions from Bali, Malaysia, Japan and Italy: you’ll want to pack your bags today

Potato Head Studios: OMA complete their first hotel in Bali

OMA’s first hotel, located in Seminyak, is dedicated to both guests and the local community, the Potato Head Studios features an open ground plane for curated cultural events and daily leisure activities, which welcomes visitors of all kinds.

The Potato Head Studios was designed with the Indonesian context in mind. The open platform at the ground level and a private garden on the second level evoke the raised courtyards in Indonesia, and traditional Balinese courtyards found at the ground level. Textures of some concrete walls were created by local craftsmen, while the façade design of the guest room corridors were inspired by Balinese Tika, or divination calendar.

Former Italian grain mill repurposed into a prestigious hotel

Concreta worked on the interiors for the Hilton Molino Stucky, a building of recognised historical and aesthetic value and one of the most suggestive industrial archaeological sites in Italy.

One of the challenges of the project was to emphasise the brightness of the interiors not only through lighting fixtures but also by carefully evaluating the colours and material contrasts. The white skirting board as opposed to the dark parquet, the light colours and the use of metal elements are not only a theoretical inspiration but also important tools to highlight the natural light of the environment.

Special attention was paid to all the lighting elements, designed or modified specifically for the setting of the Molino, so as to obtain a product that is both functional and consistent with the whole mood of the project and the place itself.

Adults-only heritage boutique hotel reopens in Slovenia

Some 18 individually styled rooms are arranged between the Austro-Hungarian villa and the contemporary extension, and are furnished with locally sourced timbers. Villa rooms have a traditional feel, while modern rooms have a minimalist alpine design.

The two styles merge seamlessly around the newly appointed stairwell, which combines traditional and contemporary elements and overlooks a striking beaten brass chandelier.

The interiors are designed to create an atmosphere of homely comfort with a splash of humour and a nod to nature and local farming and hunting traditions - a friendly sheep greets guests at the front door and a cackle of crows perches on the blackened dining room wall.

The Prestige Hotel: the first of its kind in Penang, Malaysia

The Ministry of Design created a modern day magical interpretation of Victorian design inspired by the Nolan film, welcoming the urbane traveler to a contemporised and quasi-colonial universe.

The Prestige Hotel is an independent bespoke luxury hotel portraying the natural and urban beauty of Penang’s historic core. Uniquely one of a kind, the hotel draws upon the cultural relevance of its colonial past whilst showcasing the art of illusion etched in sophisticated architectural and design philosophies to deliver a distinctive hotel stay experience. Located in Georgetown, it’s set amongst the impressive and intricate 19th century English colonial buildings found in this UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel features 162 rooms, an all day dining restaurant, a rooftop infinity pool, events pavilion and terrace, and a vibrant Victorian dining and retail arcade. Located 25 minutes from Penang’s international airport and within walking distance to Penang’s famous cultural landmarks and popular gourmet hotspots.

Asia’s first Ace Hotel Kyoto

Designed in partnership with architect Kengo Kuma, the hotel features a vibrant Lobby, garden courtyard, flexible event spaces, a dedicated gallery, and Japan’s first Stumptown Coffee Roasters Coffee Shop.

The hotel’s design centres around an East Meets West aesthetic philosophy, marrying a shared love for craft, natural, regional materials and custom art by local and West Coast artists and artisans. Inspiration was drawn from the history of collaborations between Western architects and designers; incorporating a balance between Japanese and American aesthetics, the public and private areas offer layered, iconic spaces that speak to the convergence of ideas and traditions.

Former Italian industrial building transformed into new four star luxury superior hotel

The structure will cover a total area of 11,000m² and will include 200 rooms; this functional overhaul is made unique by the inclusion of a series of amenities such as an outdoor garden and pool, along with service areas, meeting and conference rooms, a cafeteria and breakfast lounge, a reception, offices, three indoor swimming pools, a fitness center and a spa.

The entire structure is very peculiar as it retains a strong eco-friendly identity throughout its entirety; the decision to focus on design aspects related to eco-sustainability is endorsed by the Starhotels Group.

Hotel Sant'Elena: the past and artisan culture

The restyling project, developed in collaboration with Architect Manuela Mannino from THDP Studio, combines a lively design rich in details with local particularities and a well defined identity, in order to offer guests an elegant and refined product. The inspiration for the restyling takes its cue from history, from the strong link between the city of Venice, considered the gate to the East, and the Byzantine culture.

The lobby on the ground floor features refined Murano glass lamps and decorations of the reception, which opens towards the restaurant and flows into the garden through large windows. To complete the services offered by the Hotel, a Pompeiana overlooking the internal garden, is an ideal space to host business meetings and private events.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts projects multiply to include the world’s tallest five star hotel

Set to launch in 2023, Rosewood Half Moon Bay boasts one of the most spectacular white sand beaches in the world. Comprising 132 spectacular oceanfront acres, the destination will feature a limited collection of residences in addition to the resort.  This collection of 25 Rosewood Residences is being developed by Replay Destinations and designed by Studio Piet Boon, known for their exceptional craftsmanship and eco-contemporary aesthetic. Rosewood Residences Half Moon Bay will offer stunning views of the bay with two-, three-, or five-bedroom hillside residences, as well as an intimate four-bedroom design set just 50ft back from the sea.

Featuring unobstructed ocean views, private infinity pools, hammocks and open air shower gardens with live orchid walls that invite the outdoors inside, the design and architecture of the residences reflect a modern take on the Caribbean vernacular, with color palettes inspired from the depths of the sea to the enlivened spirit of the sun.
