BNKC Architect's post pandemic strategic school master plan for Canada

With schools reopening, parents, teachers, the school administration and architects are all investigating how best to manage assembly of students in a way that is safe and efficient, while still engaging young minds in study and socialisation

Currently, Northmount School is undersized for the number of students in its community, and BNKC Architect's master plan addresses a renewed physical facility and learning environment that supports the educational goals of the school, and creates a new image for the school community.

BNKC Architects undertook a master plan that addresses the school’s multiple priorities to provide for growth, upgrades, spatial awareness and modernisation of the facility. The master plan also highlights the need for new and refurbished spaces including:

  • Appropriately sized classrooms with natural lighting

  • A contemporary kindergarten space with customised bathroom and mudroom

  • STEM Lab, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math

  • Soundproof music room with ensemble practice space and storage

  • Enlarged art room with modern equipment

  • Expanded main entrance and administrative area

  • Localised collaboration spaces for students and staff

  • Expanded community areas for events and gatherings

  • An additional 8,500 sq ft of multipurpose space

  • Future opportunities for additional programme space
