Canada’s most sustainable community

The 34 acre master planned community bordering the Ottawa River adheres to all 10 principles of the One Planet Living framework

by Georgina Johnston 17 May 2021 Sustainable Buildings

Kohn Partnership Architects designed Blocks 206 and 207 in collaboration with Teeple Architects.

Sited in the National Capital Region, the area is undergoing a redevelopment; the plan intends to establish a lively mixed use area with several stand alone residential and commercial buildings. Blocks 206 and 207 are located in Ottawa’s Chaudière West district and form the northern boundary of Zibi's Head Street Square, a central event space that references the site's industrial past.

Zibi Block 206 is envisioned as an elegant tower on a commercial podium, which opens onto the adjacent Head Street Square. The building was designed to meet the sustainability standards of One Planet Living and includes co-living units on the podium levels; to eliminate GHG emitting energy sources while aiming to encourage social equity.

At six storeys, Block 207 is an adaptive reuse of an existing post-industrial building and will provide new commercial retail and office spaces for the area. These retail and office spaces will assist in the creation of a complete community on the island.⠀
