The Angel's Empire: YoDezeen’s yin and yang interior design scheme

Moscow’s new apartments are a gallery of "celestial aesthetics", creating a mind bending and airy internal space

by Georgina Johnston 01 July 2021

For almost a year, the designers and architects have been drawing and implementing the Angel's Empire on the city’s skyline; with a total area of 338 sq m, the apartments are located on the last two floors of a highrise building, creating its own little empire with its own heavenly light and inky dark accents.

Each zone tells its own story with architectural and colour schemes; the frosty gray living room and dining area softly contrast with the kitchen zone, completely flowing into the dark corner of the staircase. The master bedroom picks up the living mood, but also gently flows into the warm lighting of the bathroom. The lower floor repeats the mood of the general concept, but with the guest block, consisting of a bedroom, wardrobe, bathroom, cabinet, a laundry room, and a maid quarter.

The apartments were created for a venture investor who admires natural beauty; each zone refers to the outside world, one with "naked" windows, another with a terrace of 120 sq m, and a first level balcony that frames the entire space.

The thinnest, deepest and most beloved part of the project is the area of the hall and stairs. A real work of art, for the sake of which we have united several complex natural materials. Glass, wood, metal, the frame of the stairs, and we have created a real sculpture.

Artur Sharf, Architect, YoDezeen

The design concept of the apartment is concentrated in laconic forms, logical clarity, harmony, and simplicity; a steel custom kitchen with an illuminated back wall, classic shades of veneered panels, porcelain stoneware, and one of the most unusual elements, leather panels behind the bed in the guest bedroom. Everything is verified, consistent and symmetrical, without grotesque and bombast in any material.

One of the main attractions of the apartment is the master bedroom's unusual combination with the bathroom. The bathroom is literally within one’s reach from the bedroom, and the sky is only one more step. Visually, this solution makes windows even more "open", and the entrance to the terrace is harmoniously played out. Despite the fact that the apartment is a true gallery of “celestial aesthetics”, such a bath arrangement was accepted to continue the apartment in the lines of the terrace; porcelain stoneware boxes, steps, and lighting have become a functional decoration.

A Minotti sofa dominates the living area, and the Galotti & Radice coffee table complements the scene. Bar stools from Bonaldo, dining stools from Poliform, and of course the light above the dining area by Juniper, and B&B Italia dominates the soft furniture of the master bedroom.
