Patina Maldives: Studio MK27’s radical biophilic redesign in the Fari Islands

Throughout the interiors, earthy colour palettes, subtle textures and matte surfaces are complemented by arcadian materials to create a dialogue with nature.

Millwork furniture customised by Marcio Kogan, founder of Studio MK27, exclusively for Patina Maldives, incorporates subtle practical and aesthetic design features.

Uniquely for the Maldives, floor-to-ceiling sliding window systems allow the villas to be opened to the elements on all three sides.

Bespoke family homes by Studio Ma and JVA Architects topping a US mountain

The project is the latest addition to a ski development in the mountainous town of Eden in Utah, designed for sustainability as part of a town-sized new village aiming for low-carbon ideals.

The five-family home stands amid 15 sq miles of open space for recreation and conservation, with about a quarter of the land area dotted with reserved, modernist homes and hotels.

With three beds and three and a half baths each, the five townhouses have been customised according to the various designs suggested from each of the constituents, which makes the project a complex multi-client endeavour; the 17,00 sq ft result reflects individual visions inside and a collective concept throughout.

Manhattan’s mid-century private membership club by Fogarty Finger

Each amenity space is inspired by the materiality and spirit of leading designers from the 60s, the era in which the original building was raised. The bar and lounge draws from Alvar Aalto, organic, sensitive, and natural. Warm woods, comfortable seating, and lower lighting create a sense of atmosphere and community.

The gallery is inspired by the Eames, an inventive and playful duo. Here, bold colours and games made of pigmented acrylic encourage recreation while light oak and glass create modular pieces of furniture. The salon and lifestyle lab call back to Gio Ponti and Eero Saarinen, the former with its luxuriously eclectic mix of coloured tile, soft fabrics, and bright chrome, the latter with its library-style tables.

Located at 80 Fenchurch Street, the project provides 240,000 sq ft of offices, along with 12,500 sq ft of retail space.

Occupier amenity was a priority in the design and specification of the BREEAM Excellent and WiredScore Platinum building. The long span structure coincides with the external bay expression to give efficient, largely column-free, flexible floor plates of up to 25,000 sq ft. The building also offers a variety of health facilities, 331 cycle racks, 342 lockers and 22 showers.

A feature central atrium playfully spirals throughout the building’s centre to create visual interest and allow light within the depth of the building and the entrance below.

Red House: design couple create family home in Auckland

Lindy Ewart and Malcolm Ewart, of Ministry of Architecture + Interiors, adapted their bespoke house from a formerly run-down property

The 1,080 sq m site is located in a busy suburban community, down a narrow drive toward the end of a cul-de-sac; the site was laid out to allow a new home in the right place with an existing pool, orangery and retained flat lawn.

As architects, designing their own long term home presented an opportunity to create a unique design response. The result is a bold yet carefully considered home designed to serve the needs of the family beyond the next decade. The house is visually striking with its bright red shed-like appearance.
