Concreta collaborate with designers to create Californian ski resort

The team of 'Altrostudio Architetti and designer Marco Bedognetti, coordinated by the Architect Steven Mufatti, designed the interiors of Hotel La Vetta in San Domenico di Varzo, located in the heart of the Lepontine Alps in Upper Piedmont

by Georgina Johnston 07 October 2021 Furniture

The project was produced by the contractor Concreta based in Valtellina; in compliance with the local construction tradition, the new structure relates to the surrounding environment preserving its peculiar typological features and is articulated in three different building volumes that lie on the natural slope and fit well into the mountain landscape.

The research of design solutions gave life to a unique and exclusive interior design, which permeates the interiors of the 77 rooms and of the common areas.

The wonderful light that flows into the interiors through the large windows allowed us to shape a concept in which wood is the main material.

Steven Mufatti, Architect

The wall coverings, made of vertical oak staves of varying sizes, blend in with the furnishings, the wardrobes, the bathroom doors. The three buildings that house the rooms rest on a single platform that hosts the common areas. The heart of this platform is a ‘Stube’ entirely covered with recycled larch, as for doors and decorations, tables and benches.

All around the ‘Stube’ the other spaces, also covered in wood and natural stone, are enhanced by lighting. The two suites have a bathroom inside with a shower area  and a small 'private spa' in which special glass cuts opening on the walls covered in mosaic allows perspective glimpses into the room"

The rooms feature exposed stone and barked wood logs used for the covering of some wall corners and original dividing steels, as well as the presence of elegant fabrics that provide gentle, refined luxury, in perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

The client wanted comfortable common areas available to the hotel guests, a place where they could stay all day in case of bad weather. Following these suggestions, the architects designed a variety of rooms: such as the fireplace room, the reading room and a TV room with a sofa and theatrical curtains for relaxation.

In the cigar room and lounge bar, the concept design is captivating and rich in different materials, waxed iron and sinuous curtains on the bar counter in bronzed metal fabric. The strong presence of metal is balanced by original dividers in birch wood with the typical light trunk and by lamps to emphasise the effect.
