Swingers’ first US crazy golf site by Zachary Pulman Design Studio

Following the success of Swingers’ two London locations, the Washington DC venue features two 9-hole crazy golf courses, a clubhouse, patio, four cocktail bars and street food vendors

by Nav Pal 03 November 2021

With food from Lil’SUCCOTASH, Kneadza Pizza, tuTaco and Mah De Zahr, the 1,824 sq m venue opened in June 2021. The design is based on a quintessential 1920s English country golf club with immersive, multi-sensory and whimsical elements providing guests with a theatrical entertainment experience.

When designing large spaces like Swingers DC, we always strive to balance a sense of intimacy with grand scale – in a way that always feels as if exactly the right amount of people are inside. We also like to play with scale, making things slightly too small or too big which makes the journey that much richer. A key aim was to keep the venue theatrical and fun.

Zachary Pulman

A 30 ft clocktower, hosts the ground floor Clocktower Bar on the 9th hole of the Clocktower Course. The brief for the Clocktower was to create a feature that would tie the two spaces together. The grandfather clock was made by serene laser cut metal channels with concealed LED lighting and serves as a visual link between the two floors.

The library-themed Clocktower Bar is Swingers’ first street-facing bar. The space was designed to be welcoming, featuring panelling and arches to create an atmosphere similar to a mini Oxford library.
