Ameller Dubois provides new nursing home for French Champagne region

The Roederer Boisseau Foundation adopted an architectural treatment for the project, in Reims, referring to a contemporary hotel residence to offer a calm and reassuring place for elders

by Georgina Johnston 29 November 2021 Landscape

The new nursing home faces the historic building, in the continuity of its gardens. It consists of an arched main wing oriented towards the landscape and housing the accommodation units and a pavilion for specialised units.

This curved building, whose spirit refers to the contemporary hotel residence rather than to the hospitable character often attributed to this type of programme, houses the numerous rooms of the residence. Set out as a belvedere, they benefit from the carefully landscaped environment, which guarantees the preservation of the wooded character of the site.

Glass sunshades animate the facade and play with the light according to their opalescence, creating a soft and luminous atmosphere inviting calm and serenity.

The main entrance is located naturally in the hollow of this long façade and distributes the ground floor, which houses the animation, administration and logistics areas.

At the rear, a pavilion houses the specialised services of the Alzheimer's unit and the unit dedicated to those with additional mental requirements. Made of brick and wood, noble and reassuring materials, it also benefits from a specially designed therapeutic garden.

At the junction of these figures, places for exchanges and vertical circulation are located at the heart of the establishment, serving all the shared premises, which have exits on the same level to the gardens.
