CLOU and Sunac bring Winter Olympic energy with new Wuhan Snow World

Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 inspired new interest in snow sports

by Séan Thurgood 19 August 2022 Sport in architecture

Sunac in partnership with CLOU Architects are in the process of creating its fifth generation of indoor snow sports experiences. Having already achieved success in Harbin, Guangzhou and Chendu, they hope to make Wuhan synonymous with winter sports.

The venue which spans more than 178,000 sq m is due to be completed in 2024. With an impressive 500m long indoor ski slope that stands 100m tall, this will be a venue that caters to the growing winter sports craze as it begins to snowball.

Naturally there will be ski schools, clubs and the hosting of several winter sport events. In the other Snow World venues they have already attracted more than 5 million visitors and they are expecting even more to flock to this new venture.

The new sports facility will offer hotels and retail outlets to visitors. Their goal is to attract both professional and casual winter sport enthusiasts from across the globe. As a lakeside venue it is also perfectly situated for watersports and extensive views of the natural area.

There will also be theme parks and other entertainment on offer, constructed in partnership with CLOU Architects. These will offer attractions all-year-round, such as leisure experiences, and extensive nightlife below the slopes.
