Clap Studio recreate beachside bao experience in Valencia Spain

The restaurant promises beers, beach and baos

by Séan Thurgood 01 August 2022

Baovan restaurant was established by travellers who had experienced the offerings of Asia and wished to bring them back to Spain. In addition to travel, these travellers shared an adventurous spirit and a love of the extreme sport of surfing which they were keen to integrate into their restaurant.

Dividing the restaurant into three distinct areas, the intention is to take the restaurant attendee on a journey. Firstly they pass through ‘the forest’, a porch of ropes that dangle from above.  Crossing into the next section is the beach and the sunset which features half-moon shaped screens that recreate the colours of the setting sun throughout the dinner service.

The ceiling resembles a blanket of cloud and reflects the light of the screens to allow the light of dusk to move across the room. In addition, there is a private dining area for 10 people which allows visitors to have dinner in the moonlight.

Throughout the space, round shapes resembling bao bread are repeated and Baovan has custom-made chairs that are designed to resemble an open bao bread.
